Sinkholes (Quad blogging post)

Hello and welcome to this super awesome sinkholes project! Kira and I have organized this project so we hope you enjoy.

How do they form?

This is the main question to answer if you are doing a project. This event is caused by humans and the rain. Humans do the damage  by the drilling, mining  ,and digging . This effects the layers underground ( mostly limestone). If this happens above limestone it dissolves and crumbles up a bit. When the rain comes out it can seek through the holes and store water. When to much water is stored underground, it the collapses and can swallow absolutely anything on top of it.

Where do they form?

Almost anywhere? It really depends on where you live. The reason why they don't have it in some countries is because they may have a very small amount of area and do not have much rain pass by plus the human activities are not used very often.

Why on earth do they form?

This is because almost ever country in the world can have one as the human activities are used too much and varies on where they live in. It really just has to form, that's the way the world is.

How many people have died from this event?

We do not know the total answer but I have found there are more than 4 deaths given so far :(.

How much has this affected people in our world?

In Guatemala city, it has swallowed a 10 story building which was worth $360 million which can certainly mean that this event can make a huge effect on the earth and people.

How can we decrease the probability of sinkholes?

First, look an eye out for some of these signs.

1.Finding doors and windows leading outside hard to open.

2.Finding sediment in your water from taps, baths etc.

3.Finding cracks on floors outside or inside.

4.Floors sloping and becoming uneven.

Is there any scientific way to stop sinkholes?

Yes,one way
! NASA has invented a type of radar that can detect places where the ground is weak, where sinkholes are most likely to open up. This then allows the crew to contact people living close to that area to get ready and move.

So that is all you need to know about sinkholes. I hope you found this info report helpful. BYE!!!!!
